美國和台灣的身體質量指數(BMI)正常範圍不同

在台灣和美國買衣服最大不同是大小。美國小號衣服差不多等於台灣中號衣服。我最近才發現兩國的身體質量指數正常範圍也不同。 什麼是身體質量指數呢?身體質量指數的英文名稱是body mass index ,簡稱為BMI。身體質量指數是用來計算體重會不會太高、是否肥胖和體重有沒有生命危險。身體質量指數不能代替身體檢查和醫生,是一個簡單的方法來自己測驗體重的好壞。BMI的計算是BMI=體重/身高^2,體重單位是公斤、身高單位是公尺。 照臺東縣衛生局的BMI試算表,BMI正常範圍是18.5和22.9之間。照美國Health and Human Services BMI Calculator,BMI正常範圍是18.5和24.9之間。雖然兩個範圍的底數相同,高數差二。不知到這差別是因為體質或生活的不同。美國加洲Palo Alto Medical Foundation有針對南亞人民的BMI範圍;正常範圍是18.5和23之間,跟台灣相同。 我的經驗是我要用台灣的範圍。我的體重在美國的BMI正常範圍之內。可是我慢慢有一些身體問題。醫生覺得簡肥會有幫助。果然瘦了五公斤以後,身體沒問題了。我看到台灣的BMI正常範圍後才發現根據那個範圍我本來是過重。現在我的體重在台灣算在正常範圍之內。所以,我以後就該用台灣的BMI正常範圍來觀察我的體重。
