I was not planning on writing about the brawl during the basketball game between the Georgetown Hoyas and Bayi Rockets. But, I did want to share this clip on Hulu from the Friday, August 19, 2011 edition of ABC’s Nightline. I thought the short segment did a very good job summarizing the political and sports history of U.S. and China relations.
Taiwan and its seventeen Little League World Series championships was the second sport issue mentioned. Winning the Little League World Series is definitely a point of pride for Taiwan. It proves to the world that Taiwan can compete on the international level. The seventeen championships are the most titles by any country. China, on the other hand, has no championships. Actually, I do not even recall a team from China entering the Little League World Series.
I think the summary by ABC about Taiwan’s situation was very good. It stated that China considers Taiwan as its own, so Taiwan now has to compete as Chinese Taipei. I think it was concise and to the point. There was no room for too much explanation because it was a short segment, but it definitely made a point.
