The BBC released two video reports about Taiwan.
The first report is “Taiwan Easycard: All your life on just one card.” The EasyCard is the 悠遊卡. The card started out as an electronic fare system for the Taipei MRT, but has expanded to other cities and many other uses. I really like the ability to use it at stores. It’s such a convenient little card. I’ve even used it to pay my fare at the Taipei zoo.
The second report is “Taiwan’s bid to boost fitness and reduce obesity.” As long as I can remember, obesity has been a developing problem in Taiwan. As Taiwan’s economy improved, so did the supply of food. The population in general is eating better, maybe too well. In school, physical education was a scheduled class. I remember that physical education class time would be used for normal class if we were behind in a subject. I don’t remember any physical fitness assessments, but we did have an annual track meet.
